The Sharp End is an avalanche safety training and backcountry ski guiding service run by Eirik Sharp. We work with a tight group of guides and avalanche professionals passionate about helping you develop the skills necessary to travel safely in the mountains. We lead courses and trips for guests of varying skill levels and experience. All our programs are run at low ratios in order to ensure quality in service and safety.

We want to help people play safely in the backcountry by:

  • Providing high quality avalanche safety education.
  • Educating as many backcountry users as possible in the awareness of avalanches and avalanche safety.
  • Increasing the public awareness of avalanches and avalanche safety.
  • Enabling people to experience the adventure of backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering in remote northern ranges around the world.
We pride ourselves on safely achieving success in the mountains. A small group size is not only safer but allows for more one on one instruction, more time spent skiing, and more fun. Naturally, the ratio or group size to guide that we provide affects our prices. You may find companies offering lower prices but they will always have higher guest-to-guide ratios than us. We feel that larger groups and higher ratios compromise the safety, enjoyment, and success of individual participants. We take our job seriously and believe we offer the best experience for you with smaller group sizes.
All our guides are certified through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides or are professional members of the Canadian Avalanche Association. They all have impressive technical ability and strong decision-making skills and judgment. Their skilled teaching abilities are truly what sets them aside from the rest. We will spend the extra time to make sure you get the most out of your trip. Our instruction focuses on skills, techniques, and the proper application to the terrain. Our guides love to teach you the skills you need to safely enjoy the mountains.
The Sharp End has made a commitment to reducing our impact in all aspects of our business. We travel to some of the most beautiful and pristine areas in the world and do our best to minimize the physical and cultural footprints we leave behind. All of our expeditions practice the Leave No Trace code of ethics and we strive to make other business choices that will help make our planet an even better place to live.
We are constantly looking for unique adventures to offer in remote northern mountain ranges. If you have an idea for a trip or a training course and want some help getting it off the ground either with advice, logistical support, instruction, or guiding, let us know.
